Dr. William Brown is an evolutionary and behavioral scientist whose work spans the continuum from molecular epigenetics to theoretical physics and cosmology. Guided by a core belief in the democratizing power of clear scientific communication—advocated by figures like Richard Feynman—Dr. Brown has dedicated his career to making complex systems rigorous and accessible. His path has been a journey from a childhood obsession with origins and scale to high-profile academic research, and now to a mission of direct public service through independent science. As an autistic scientist, his unique perspective informs a deeply felt connection to the natural world, offering an authentic voice within the scientific dialogue surrounding autism and human behavior.
Over a twenty-year career in academia, Dr. Brown held faculty, teaching, and research appointments at leading institutions in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Supported by significant public funding, including prestigious and generous research support from the Canadian government as the first member of his family to pursue a PhD, he conducted crucial empirical work interfacing with public health, development, and survival. In 2006, he founded the Centre for Culture and Evolutionary Psychology at Brunel University. He later moved to appointments at Queen Mary University of London and the University of East London, before joining the University of Bedfordshire in 2011. His post-doctoral portfolios included investigating large-scale cultural and epidemiological datasets on health, morbidity, and breast cancer screening at Long Island University.

Working from a canal boat amidst the diverse, tangled dreampond topography of Croxley Moor—mirroring the local artistic and community-focused legacy of figures like Fred Ross—he utilizes immersive thought experiments (Gedankenexperimente) to develop a novel, overarching theory of change. His current work outlines a geometric phase transition model designed to explain structural shifts across scales, bridging quantum phenomena with macro-level cosmic evolution.
This independent research represents a redemption arc—not just a personal one, but a scientific one dedicated to public service. Dr. Brown’s drive to give back is a direct reflection of his family history; raised by a police officer and a public servant mother—the latter celebrated publicly by the CBC as a remarkably active retiree dedicated to volunteering for seniors and the vulnerable—he views civic duty as foundational. Dr. Brown is making his groundbreaking work—which relies on globally curated, publicly funded data sets, the "collective human culture intelligence" of cooperation—accessible to everyone. Recognizing the potential for scientific institutions and online repositories to become the very silos they sought to replace, he is creating simplified, three-step verification processes for his models. Dr. Brown is currently synthesizing his lifetime of survival, adversity, and scientific inquiry into his first forthcoming book, using his unique lens to show others that they, too, can overcome hardship to understand the fundamental mechanics of the universe.
